#ReadAnFnBookFridays: Alien Smut Peddlers From the Future by Kent Hill

Title: Alien Smut Peddlers From the Future

Author: Kent Hill

Publisher: Strangehouse Books

If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m a sucker for over-the-top fiction, unrestricted by the physical laws of the universe. I appreciate it when an author cuts those ties to reality and just flows with whatever weirdness might come out of their minds as long, stringy clumps of story.

Every #ReadAnFnBookFridays book so far has been from publishers who concentrate on abstract, odd-ball fiction, and Alien Smut Peddlers From the Future by Kent Hill and Strangehouse Books is no exception.

The basic story is an alien crash lands in a universe much like the old west, and discovers a burgeoning porn business, which is the equivalent of stumbling onto a goldmine in the porn-obsessed future society.

The story mostly follows Mendoza Dooblah and Badlands Meredith, as they travel the west, laying track, and documenting as much of it as possible. They are kind of like Bob Crane and John Henry Carpenter meet Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

You know from the beginning a confrontation is going to happen, and Kent Hill does a good job of keeping the tension alive with lively storytelling.

As one would expect a book called Alien Smut Peddlers From the Future to include, there is plenty of humor sprinkled throughout the book. There’s also plenty of weird, explicit sex throughout the book too.

Unlike those classic cult films of the mid 1900s, which almost never delivered on the claims in its promotional hype, wild titles, and amazing poster art used to sell them, Alien Smut Peddlers From the Future delivers everything you imagine it would.

There are aliens and time Travel.

There are shootouts.

There is plenty of sex.

There is even plenty of explicit sex.

There is also an element of cool in the way the story is written that matches the cool artwork on the cover.

You can pick up the Kindle version on Amazon right now for $2.99, and the paperback version for about $8.

Here’s an excerpt of the book read by some kind of sock puppet thing.

Good shit.

Check it out some time.

In the meantime, though, why don’t you read a fucking book or something.

Ladies and gents, the first ever #ReadAnFnBookFridays Book: The Apocalypse and Satan’s Glory Hole

The Apocalypse and Satan’s Glory Hole

Authors: Timothy W. Long and Jonathan Moon

Paperback: 334 pages (It’s also available in a digital and audio format.)

Welcome to Chapter 1 of Read A Fucking Book Fridays here on the Acid Pop Cult website, where every Friday you’ll find a new post about a book, or at the very least, something book related.

Now that we have the introduction out of the way let’s get down to business with The Apocalypse and Satan’s Glory Hole.

The Bizarro corner of the fiction world can be found underneath the mushroom growing beneath the water fountain between the restrooms deep inside that nearly extinct beast known as a book store.

It’s an anything goes genre whose authors often craft worlds with images resembling a mashup of artwork by Salvador Dali and H.R. Geiger. Bizzaro Central is a good resource for familiarizing yourself with the Bizarro world.

The problem I’ve had with “Bizarro fiction” is occasionally I’ll find one of these surreal stories that leaves me wondering what the fuck is going on, rather than WHAT THE FUCK!? as an expression of amazement.

The Apocalypse and Satan’s Glory Hole is full of amazement.

The time for the apocalypse is nigh, but God just says fuck it and rather than managing the end of this world, he trips off to another galaxy to start over with fewer humans.

This doesn’t stop The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse from going ahead with their mission, and it definitely doesn’t stop Satan from unleashing every demon in Hell to wreak havoc on Earth.

Thanks a horde of doped up, horny hippies having an orgy on a gaping hole in the Earth at Burning Man, a plague of cockbugs are released and the ground is fertilized for Satan’s emergence.

Angels are pummeled, humans die en masse, zombies form armies, the Four Horsemen appear on a talk show, the antichrist is killed, and it’s up to an acid head, a one-armed monkey with a heroin problem, cops dressed in B&D gear, a porn shop owner, a crew of heavily armed, militant lesbians, a Stretch-Armstrong-like doll, and a reclusive blogger to stop it.

Fittingly enough, Las Vegas, Sin City itself, becomes ground zero for every bit of it. Gotta love that. In fact, I love that almost as much as I love the abundance of glory holes available as mankind meets its doom. Glory, glory, hallelujah.

The story moves ahead quickly as it ties all of the character threads together for the big climax. Timothy W. Long and Jonathan Moon do a good job of walking the line between truly disturbing and utterly hilarious.

It’s a damn good read.

Here’s a snippet of the audio book:

The Kindle version of it is currently just .99 on Amazon, though I’m not sure how long that price is going to last. So get it now before the real world’s apocalypse begins when the world economy totally collapses in the not too distant future.

And hey, whether it’s this one or another one, why don’t you go read a fucking book or something.
