#ReadAnFnBookFridays: Kitty’s Revenge by Jimmy Pudge

Title: Kitty’s Revenge

Author: Jimmy Pudge

Kitty’s Revenge wreaks of I Spit on Your Grave, but doesn’t every rape-revenge piece ever written?

I won’t go as far as saying Kitty’s Revenge is identical to the story of I Spit on Your Grave, but the basic elements are there.

In I Spit on Your Grave, a woman is beaten and raped by some hillbillies in the woods, and then she seeks revenge on them. In Kitty’s Revenge, Kitty Hawkins is find herself working as a hooker-turned-stripper who is abducted  by a mad man who was one of her johns. Kitty sets out to get revenge on not only the man, but her other stripper “friends” who assisted the mad man in torturing her.

Ok, so the only element that is similar to I Spit on Your Grave is the fact that a woman who was physically abused is determined to get revenge on the people who hurt her. I think everything that has this type storyline reminds me of Spit because I saw spit when I was young and it was my introduction to stories of this nature. Now that I think about it some more, it might be more akin to They Call Her One Eye.

Kitty’s Revenge has scenes of brutality and sex that rival scenes from Brett Easton Ellis’s book American Psycho. If you read the book, you know how much more graphic and sick it is than the watered down movie.

In Jimmy Pudge’s story, there are fingers getting chopped off, anal bead strangulation, penis biting and chewing, tooth picks in the eyeballs, and eye surgery with a survival knife, and those are just the highlights.

Kitty begins the story with her life in order and on the right track. As it moves ahead, she encounters tragedy after tragedy, before she is finally driven to violence. By the end, escaping a bad situation is no longer the option that got Kitty out of tight spots before, and she chooses to fight back.

Pudge does a good job of keeping things moving ahead and giving the reader a glimpse of what is going on in Kitty’s head as she manages situations.

Good shit.

Jimmy Pudge

I found the book browsing Amazon for bizarro fiction titles. Pudge has written a number of books that fall into the category of the weird. Kitty’s Revenge has some elements of what one would expect in the bizarro genre, but it isn’t so far out there the concepts are hard to grasp. It’s just a gritty tale that one might have seen made into a film that might have been shown on 42nd Street back in the heyday of cult films. The revenge factor is an obvious connection to this era; so is the over-the-top violence and sex; and there are even elements of the typical kung fu and blaxploitation script.

Check it out when you can. In the meantime, why don’t you read a fucking book or something.
